Since busking at St Andrews Market in the early 2000s, brothers Josh and Sam Teskey have operated on a simple principle: compromise on nothing. That ethos runs through everything they do, from their purist analogue recording techniques and timeless songwriting to the slow, deliberate way they've built one of the most beloved catalogs in Australian music.
Their debut album, Half Mile Harvest (2017), turned heads, and its follow-up, Run Home Slow (2019), cemented their reputation. The album reached No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart, won three ARIA Awards, and earned engineer Sam Teskey a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, all while being recorded entirely to analogue tape. The Winding Way (2023) debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, won Best Blues & Roots Album at the ARIA Awards and Rolling Stone Australia's Best Record of 2023, and took the band around the world, including a triumphant performance on Glastonbury's Other Stage. Their live album, Live At The Forum, recorded to tape side-stage across four sold-out nights at Melbourne's iconic Forum Theatre, became their first No. 1 ARIA album.
Their latest release, Live At The Hammersmith Apollo, is the band's sixth album, recorded entirely to tape by Declan Gaffney, the engineer behind acclaimed live recordings for U2 and The Rolling Stones. Using a Studer A80 tape machine borrowed from Metropolis Studios just down the road, the same studio where legends like David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen have recorded, the Teskey Brothers continue to prove that doing things the old-fashioned way can still sound timeless.
