Mexico City based singer-songwriter Silvana Estrada has emerged as one of the most compelling global voices of her generation, crafting deeply emotive indie-folk that blends jazz, traditional Latin American influences, and poetic lyricism. The daughter of two luthiers, Estrada grew up in Veracruz surrounded by the language of music. Raised singing Mexican son jarocho and baroque choir music, later schooled in jazz, and most often found with a Venezuelan cuatro in her hands, she draws from the full depth of Latin American tradition while writing songs that feel unmistakably her own. A multi-instrumentalist, the cuatro's warm, intimate sound perfectly suits her hands and moves in step with the rolling variations of her singular voice. "My music is made of who I am," she says.
That philosophy has defined a career built on honesty rather than trends. Following her acclaimed debut Marchita, which earned her the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist in 2022, Estrada received a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Performance in 2024 and has collaborated with artists including Natalia Lafourcade, Jorge Drexler, Mon Laferte, Laufey, and Gustavo Dudamel.
Her 2025 album Vendrán Suaves Lluvias, self-produced across sessions in Montreal, Barcelona, and Mexico City, explored personal loss, healing, and artistic rebirth, further cementing her reputation as one of contemporary music's most distinctive songwriters. Named the No. 3 Best Latin Album of the Year by Rolling Stone, behind only Rosalía and Bad Bunny, the album also earned a Latin Grammy nomination for its standout single "Como Un Pájaro." The record sparked a landmark year that included performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, and A COLORS SHOW, a cover feature for Rolling Stone en Español, and a sold-out world tour spanning Plaza Mayor in Madrid, Webster Hall in New York, and three consecutive sold-out nights at Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City.
Now, Estrada enters a new creative chapter with new music arriving in 2026, continuing to expand her richly personal sound while remaining rooted in the traditions that first shaped her artistry.
